Mind Maps

First Idea for my Final Major Project

Just like any project, I started to mind map the areas that I would like my documentary to consist of, creating a rough shot list to assist my thoughts behind specific areas for my films content. The mind maps worked well to think about how my film could be shaped, in-particular the mind maps for RAF Harrowbeer helped to storyboard the story of the Airfield for my forthcoming graduation piece.

The intentions are to split the film into 3 categories:

  • A walkthrough of the layout for the airfield, showing the remains of buildings, defences and their placements along the airfield as well as giving an insight into the expansive landscape where this airbase was situated.

  • Variety of cinematic techniques, I have developed the idea of projecting archive footage onto the remains of buildings, a connotation to bring back war time.

  • Rewilding section: Portraying the types of events that take place annually to commemorate the brave pilots and officers who lost their lives during the Second World War.

Second Idea for my Final Major Project

For my second idea I planned to create a visual guide for the book "Dartmoor 365", the book outlines the 365 squares of land that make up Dartmoor National Park, Devon. The content features an array of historically interesting object/subjects, using an ordnance survey, the book portrays the exact square in which these locations can be found with a brief description of the subjects.  subjects to visit inside a particular square using an ordnance survey.

As a filmmaker, I feel my technical abilities could be utilised as a way to document my travels, referring back to the book as much as possible within the content. Cinematic styles such as vlogging, tracking, pull focuses, montage, photography and filming could all be combined to create an interesting visual guide for the public or tourists. A few ideas for the style can be found below:

  • Shot in the style of a travellers diary, the style of vlogs, fast cuts, combining stills and video.

  • Show the glorious landscapes, entice people out onto Dartmoor to embark on their own adventures and document them in a similar style.

  • Idea to design an app to go with the project, adding an element of entertainment, encourage others to get involved on social media platforms, using a hashtag on instagram #d365landscapes.

Started to explore areas from the book and feature on my instagram.
